First Boot

So we've managed to install Ark Linux. This will show you what will happen after your computer turns over control from it's BIOS to Ark.

This is the first thing you'll see when Ark is about to start:

This is called the Grub menu. It will display all installed operating systems. Since Ark is the only operating system installed on my computer, it is the only thing listed here. Simply pressing Enter or Return here (or waiting for the ten seconds without touching anything on the keyboard) will start Ark.

Next, we will see what is refered to as the boot screen (or the splash screen):

Many people refer to this as the Cliffs Image-it's easy to see why. It will be displayed every time you boot your computer.

If you press the Esc (or Escape) key, you will see what is called Verbose Mode - that is, a screen of text telling you what the computer is doing during boot:

Don't worry if you don't understand everything that's going on during boot; some of this may be confusing. It is, however, useful in helping to troubleshoot should something go wrong. But unless something does go wrong, you need not pay any attention to the verbose.

The next thing we'll see is known as a CLI (or text mode), but only for a moment before KDE (the GUI, or graphical user interface, that lets us interact with the computer with an arrow and icons) starts:

There's nothing special about this screen. We'll work with the CLI later on in the walkthrough.

The next thing we should see is the setup wizard. See our Starting Off section for details on this.
