Random notes on things that need to/should change after 2007.1
Organizational
- dockyard needs to be maintained. We need a volunteer to test dockyard-devel and move stuff over
- Ark Extra Software is too big, need to split it into 2 CDs (Ark Games and Ark Extra Applications?)
Development
- Get rid of the IDE drivers in the kernel, use the libata drivers instead. Need to ease transition (hda->sda ...).
- New, faster startup system partially done, 40% speedup on my (bero's) box, not yet public because of connectivity problems
- Installer for the live CD
- Check the repository for obsolete cruft
- Port installer to x86_64
Website
- Add a hardware support db, automatically sync it with the kernel's PCI/USB ID list
- Add a Software Map, automatically sync it when packages are put into dockyard-devel and dockyard
- Are there any free ($0 good enough) CD writing apps for Windoze? It would be useful for giving Windoze users who have $0 a way to burn the CD needed to install...
Wishlist
Items to look at in the longer run, probably not in time for 2007.2:
- New network/wireless config tool
- Port inkscape (the only remaining worthwhile g* app...) to Qt/KDE
- Finish port of firefox to Qt/KDE -- Konqueror is great, but some sites do have if(browser==IE) something(); else if(browser==Firefox) somethingElse(); Javascript constructs
- Something to play RAM files (Real Player) pending license change on SDK -- in the mean time mplayer can play some but not all RAM files
